‘SHARING OPPORTUNITIES’, BURUNDI KIDS

2019

Founded in 2003, BURNDI KIDS E.V. is a charitable help organization forwarding its donors’ contributions directly to real projects in one of the least privileged communities worldwide. The few constant voluntary associates managed to build and run orphan houses, elementary schools, and hospitals — fostering sustainable social, medical, macro-economic, and educational projects to better the living conditions for the poorest of the poor.

In 2019, I was fortunate being able to join for a trip to Burundi, working on a new image film for the charity organization alongside film director Marc Comes.

The country has a long history of drumming tradition which has been passed over generations without any kind of notation or recordings. The dryers are considered sacred, as well as its production from cutting down a specific tree, to carving and playing. The combination of the powerful sound and complex rhythmical structures build an unforgettable, captivating, and invigorating musical experience — making clear from the beginning that this will form the sonic foundation of the film.
