Filmed in a now defunct laboratory of a GDR lighting company, OASE features montaged footage of 'sodium vapor lamps' — a dated technology still utilized for outdoor and military applications.
Fading from dark red to bright sulfur yellow throughout a process of illumination, the recording is serialized into a dynamic of vertical stripes — creating a compositional narrative unpredictable in emergence and disappearance. The accompanying music by Carlo Heller is inspired by the silence tangible in an 'anechoic chamber' - the mutest place on earth. Absorbent of any external noise, these extreme sonic conditions only leave space for experiencing the utmost primal sounds such as the pulsation of nerves and blood. Reproducing this sensorial event, synthesizer and string instruments fuse into an entity with their visual counterparts, immersing the viewer in shifting space-time momentum.
